NEON GENESIS EVANGELION: PLATINUM

PERFECT COLLECTION

A Collectible Tin Commemorates 20 Years of GAINAX

ADV Films is pleased to present the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum: Perfect Collection, compiling the greatest anime series of all time in a beautiful and collectible tin.  This commemorative collection also includes all the extras from the original individual disc releases.  This limited edition release will hit store shelves November 27, in plenty of time for the holiday gift-giving season.

Evangelion is widely regarded as the most popular anime show ever, and it was recently named by both Anime Insider and Newtype USA as the top series of all time.  Now with Evangelion beginning its broadcast run on [adult swim] October 20, hundreds of thousands of new viewers will soon discover this modern classic for themselves.

First broadcast on TV Tokyo in 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion marks a watershed in the history of anime.  Not only did Eva raise the bar for mecha anime visually, with its innovative designs and rich animation, but the series explored an array of biological, military, religious, and philosophical concepts in a unique and thoughtful way.  Through the course of 26 episodes, what begins as a regular (if exceptionally beautiful) giant robot show soon becomes a metaphorical journey into modern psychoanalytic theory.

Produced by the acclaimed studio Gainax, Neon Genesis Evangelion’s trailblazing blend of action and philosophy immediately elevated it above the pack and accounts for its enduring popularity.  The series, which originally aired in Japan from 1995 to 1996, has exerted a strong influence on anime ever since.

Synopsis: At the turn of the century, the Angels returned to Earth, seeking to wipe out humanity in an apocalyptic fury.  Devastated, mankind’s last remnants moved underground to wait for the day when the Angels would come back to finish the job.  Fifteen years later, that day has come… but this time, humanity is ready to fight back with terrifying bio-mechanical weapons known as the Evangelions.   Now it’s up to Shinji, Rei, Asuka and the rest of the mysterious shadow agency NERV to save Earth from total annihilation!

Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum: Perfect Collection (SRP $129.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including the entire groundbreaking series thin-packed in a collectible tin case, presented in both English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1 with English subtitles.   This collection contains every video extra produced for the original single disc release of Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi’s unique brand of excitement fuses thrilling action, slapstick comedy and a bit of family drama into uproariously clever parodies of anime, video games and any other pop culture target that stumbles into its crosshairs.  An instant classic upon its release in 2003, Abenobashi was created by GAINAX, the mega-talented production studio that revolutionized the anime industry in the nineties with Neon Genesis Evangelion and the early 21st century with FLCL. The series was directed by Hiroyuki Yamaga (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Wings of Honneamise) and co-produced by Madhouse (Vampire Hunter D, Trigun, Ninja Scroll).

Suddenly, Arumi and Sasshi find themselves in a world like their own – only not.  And as they try to fight their way back to the real world, they’ll face menacing mushrooms, big-breasted space pirates, killer kung-fu fighters, a tripped out transvestite, a sorcerer who seems to be in some sort of midlife crisis – and that’s just the beginning!  They say there’s no place like home, but this ain’t exactly Oz and it sure as heck ain’t Kansas!  So put the kids to bed, leave Toto with the neighbors and get ready to dive into the madcap, whacked out world of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi!
