A Faery Hunt Opens at Griffith Park
A Faery Hunt is celebrating its 4th anniversary this month. Named Best of LA by Los Angeles Magazine, A Faery Hunt is now one of the longest running children’s shows in Los Angeles. After numerous requests to have performances on the Westside, we are very pleased to announce we will be performing in Griffith Park! Soon to be known as “The Fern Dell Faeries,” the unique interactive children’s show will perform one Saturday a month in the clearings off of the Fern Dell Drive entrance of Griffith Park on the southwest side of the park. Our first performance will be Saturday, January 17, 2009.

A Faery Hunt has one more performance for this year — Sunday, December 21 at Corriganville in Simi Valley.  Hope to see you there!
Gift Giving for the Hoidays
A Faery Hunt is now a nonprofit, tax-deductible organization.  Giving a donation to the faeries supports the many programs A Faery Hunt gives back to the community.

Besides making weekly visits to the ICU and Children’s Ward at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, in past years A Faery Hunt has worked with The Special Olympics, The Children’s Nature Institute, Los Angeles Shriners Children’s Hospital, The Girl Scouts of America (we’ve created a merit badge); Kid to Kid – an organization supporting autistic children; Project Safe, part of First 5 LA, improving the lives of young children and families throughout Los Angeles; many homeschool and mom’s groups; The Epilepsy Family Camp; The Down Syndrome Society of Los Angeles; and are recommended by CASA – the court-appointed advocates for the juvenile court in Ventura, to name a few.

Faeries At The Staple Center
This past month we participate with the first HNBA event (Humanitarian Neighborhood Basketball Alliance) at The Staples Center, Los Angeles as the pre-show to a Clippers game. The purpose of the HNBA’s events www.hnba.us is to promote humanitarian work within America and around the world. At each event at The Staples Center, the HNBA invites different charities to share the space with them. Along with A Faery Hunt, at the HNBA’s opening were Project Angel Food, Jessie’s Place, and Yachana Foundation. Below is a brief description of each charity and their contact info.

Project Angel Food Project Angel Food’s mission is to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses. From their kitchen, Project Angel Food staff and volunteers cook and deliver free and nutritious meals prepared with love. They act out of a sense of urgency because hunger and illness do not wait. You can contact them on their website at  www.projectangelfood.org or call their Main Line at 323.845.1800.

Jessie’s Place When founder, Jessica McCall, saw the widespread poverty and despair on a trip to Rwanda while representing her organization, she along with Frederick Ndabaramiye and Zachary Deusingimana decided to open a community center, UBUMWE, in the town of Gisenyi. This center provides help to the handicapped population and to the street children of Gisenyi, by providing a place to live for the street children, so that they can go to school, and teach marketable skills to the handicapped. You can contact them through their website at –  www.jessiesplace.org or call the LA Chapter at Telephone 310.398.2594 or Email at info@jessiesplace.org

The Yachana Foundation Over the last 16 years, the Yachana Foundation has generated and invested approximately 5.2 million dollars in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The Foundation owns two for-profit companies, Yachana Lodge and Yachana Gourmet, which support the Yachana Technical High School. They are involved in Geotourism, education, agriculture, health, income generation and technical assistance. For more information go to their website at www.yachana.org.ec . You can also call or E-mail the US Director of Development at 310-691-2594 or hugh.yarbrough@yachana.org.ec

A Faery Hunt was so pleased to be able to network with these other worthy charities. A Faery Hunt is currently applying for grants to take fieldtrips to both Jessie’s Place and the Yachana to spread our wings and faery blessings across the world. Please visit the above websites if you would like to donate to these causes or volunteer.
