GRIMES, IA, February 27, 2009 – Anime producer and mega-online anime retailer Right Stuf, Inc. is pleased to welcome writer, translator, lecturer and anime-industry insider Jonathan Clements to episode 87 of ANIME TODAY.

In this new, four-segment interview, Clements discusses his new book – Schoolgirl Milky Crisis: Adventures in the Anime and Manga Trade – a collection of columns, speeches, interviews, insights and more from his nearly 20 years of writing about anime and the anime industry. He also discusses how the industry and its fans have evolved over the past two decades, the mainstream media’s perception of anime, whether any subjects are “off limits,” and his future projects.

Best known to North American anime fans as the co-author of the Anime Encyclopedia (with Helen McCarthy) and for his series of columns in Newtype USA, Clements’ anime writing career started in the United Kingdom as a student of Asian studies. He went on to work as a translator, screenwriter, voice director/actor, analyst and commentator inside the anime industry, in addition to covering it for organizations such as NEO Magazine, Manga Max, the Sci-Fi Channel and the BBC. Beyond his anime-focused work, he is the author of The Dorama Encyclopedia: A Guide to Japanese TV Drama, The Pirate King: Coxinga and the Fall of the Ming Dynasty and Confucius: A Biography, plus numerous other non-fiction projects. He has also written official audio dramas, short stories and novels for cult favorites, including Strontium Dog, Judge Dredd and Doctor Who.
