Wizard ends Anime Insider

According to former Anime Insider editor Rob Bricken, Wizard Magazine has chosen to shutdown Anime Insider magazine and let go of the staff. This news follows a series of recent layoffs at Wizard Entertainment in Chicago and canceling its Wizard World Texas convention. The final issue on newsstands will be #67. Anime Insider, while not as thick as competing anime magazines, managed to survive the rough and tumble world of print publications from 2001 until 2009.

Rave Master returns to TV

For those that remember the series Rave Master when it aired on Cartoon Network, you will be pleased to know the show is back. As part of SciFi Channel’s AniMonday schedule, Rave Master is airing two episodes every week on Monday nights at midnight (EST) / 11PM (CST) starting March 16th.

A Manga Entertainment logo appears at the beginning of the episodes suggesting the license has transfered to the Starz-owned company since TOKYOPOP has left the anime series licensing arena. Sadly, the episodes still appear in the edited form — cropped from widescreen to fullscreen along with music, certain scenes, etc. being edited out — so a new, uncut release on DVD is fairly unlikely.

Addendum: Dub Actors and Watchmen

Filed under: News — Brent Long @ 4:28 pm

Last week, we had a news item about the presence of some Vancouver dub actors (and Ocean Productions staff member Ian Farthing) in the movie Watchmen.

The item neglected to mention that David Hayter (Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid; co-screenwriter of X-Men, X2, and the Scorpion King; Tamahome in Fushigi Yûgi) co-wrote the screenplay.

In addition, CrystalAcids administrator (and resident Vancouver dub expert) drakh has confirmed that Mark Acheson (Tawalya in .hack//Roots, Unicron in Transformers: Armada) and Garry Chalk (Optimus Prime in the Armada, Energon, and Cybertron series of Transformers; Optimus Primal in Beast Wars and Beast Machines; Colonel Chekov in Stargate SG-1) have uncredited roles as a questioned bar thug and one of Pres. Nixon’s generals respectively.

DragonBall Evolution movie toys

Wandering through Wal-mart today I spotted the new DragonBall Evolution movie toys sitting on the shelf. You don’t want to know how much they want for the 3 3/4″ and you definitely don’t want to see the price for the larger 6″ series. As usual for female figures, Bulma is one per case and was already missing from the shelf. You can find preview pics of the line shown at Toy Fair 2009 here.
